It is unacceptable for Akufo-Addo to behave like a mafia boss – Dr Amoako Baah

A Political Science Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has criticised the actions of President Akufo-Addo.

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story on Tuesday, Dr Richard Amoako Baah said it is “unacceptable for the President to behave like a mafia boss.”

His comment is in the wake of some New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs alleging that their seats in Parliament have been threatened due to their call for Mr. Ofori-Atta to be dismissed.

In an interview with JoyNews, the Subin MP, Eugene Boakye said despite the threats, he is not bothered.

He maintained that the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta must be removed from office because he has failed in managing the economy.

“These are major policy failures that in any civilized democracy, Ken Ofori-Atta will not stand on his feet. Why are we entertaining such nonsense?” he quizzed.

Dr. Baah asserted that the President is not expected to be threatening MPs for expressing their views.

“It is completely unacceptable for the President to behave like a mafia boss, that if you don’t go along with what I want, you will be removed. No! This is a democracy, you don’t get to that, you don’t have that power. That is abuse of power,” he stressed.

He, however, queried the NPP MPs for not maintaining their stance when they called for Ofori-Atta’s head.

It would be recalled that the NPP MPs who called for the dismissal of Mr. Ofori-Atta backed down twice on their threats to boycott government business and the presentation of the 2023 Budget if the Finance Minister is allowed to present it.

The MPs made this U-turn after meeting the President and the party’s executives, who urged them to hold off on their demand until the 2023 Budget statement was read and appropriated.

According to Dr Baah, the NPP MPs lost credibility when they acceded to the request to hold on their request.

“You are 80 members supposedly and then 17 more -97 and then you go and talk to some so called elders, this is what happens when you are not consistent .. The transaction they made has not been done yet, so why would you go and say those things and the President, you know he is unforgiving, don’t cross him. So if you are going to do it, do it,” he said.
